Many of Wheat’s new arrivals are certified according to “Oek0-Tex Standard 100”.

The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is a globally uniform testing and certification system for textile raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of production.

The certification covers multiple human-ecological attributes, including harmful substances which are prohibited or regulated by law, chemicals which are known to be harmful to health, but are not officially forbidden, and parameters are set which are included as a precautionary measure to safeguard health.

Textile products may be certified according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 only if all components meet the required criteria without exception. Certified garments are painstakingly tested for over 100 harmful substances.

Examples of harmful substances screened for include:
• Banned Carcinogenic Dyestuffs
• Allergenic Dyestuffs
• Extractable Heavy Metals
• Flame Retardants
• Formaldehyde
• Loose Dye/Colour
• Pesticides not yet banned
• Organo-tin Compounds
• Phthalates (plasticizers)
• Chlorinated Aromatic Compounds
• Volatile Organics

What this means for parents is that they can be confident no harmful, carcinogenic products, fabrics or dyes are used in manufacturing the clothes within the range. It also means that there are less possible allergic reactions and that all of the clothes have been manufactured to the highest ecologically friendly standards.

Wheat is happy to support any and all improvements that benefit parents and their children and this new certification is particularly suited to children who suffer from asthma or other allergic reactions to harmful substances used by other manufacturers.
